Project Control Apprentice, Siemens, Blast Furnace New Builds and Rebuilds (Various)

  • This was the first intake of project control apprentices which was a joint venture between, NETA (North East Training Agency), Darlington College, Teesside University, Siemens PLC UK, AMEC, Aker Kvaerner (Now Jacobs Engineering), K Home Engineering and Alpha + Limited.

 

  • The joint venture noticed a gap between current project management and control professionals trained specifically within the field and developed an apprenticeship which would train young employees on the job at the same time as attaining education.

 

  • The apprenticeship was based around the key components of Project Control within industry. Planning, Cost Estimating, Procurement, Expediting, Project Management, Quality Management and Inspection.

 

  • The qualifications gained from the apprenticeship were:
    • BTEC National Certificate in Construction and the Built Environment
    • NVQ Level 2 in Project Control
    • NVQ Level 3 in Project Control
    • FdSc in Project Control

 

  • The overall target of the apprenticeship was for the delegates to attain education and qualifications by undertaking on the job practical tasks which provided an excellent learning curve as well as an in depth education.

 

  • Spent part of the apprenticeship on site secondments to Taichung/Kaohsiung, Taiwan on three occasions to gain valuable site based experience.
