Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Ronald,

Thanks. Tried the extraction technique you advised (w/o P3) and it worked fine.

Thanks again.

Ronald,

It worked for us without having P3.1 on the computer.

I am assuming that you are stumped at this point because you do not have P3 on your computer to restore the P3 backup file before exporting it to P6.

Converting a .prx file into the P3 equivalent without having P3 installed on your computer is easy to do. A .prx file is just like a self-extracting zip file. Just rename the file extension from .prx to .exe and then execute the program. It will ask you what directory you want the P3 files placed and then proceed to unpack the file. In place of one file, you will have dozens of files all with the same first four letters and the extension of .P3.

The only question remaining is, will P6 import your P3 files if you do not have P3 installed? Does it need to first verify access rights with P3? I do not know the answer to that question as every computer that I have with P6 installed also has P3. Can anyone out there help us on this?

To import into P6, all primavera 3.1 files must be saved in P3 format and NOT prx.
