START Date:
June, 2008
END Date:
May, 2009

I was employed with DSC as a Senior Planning Engineer, for their ongoing works in North Africa, Libya. The company DSC (www.dsclibya.com) has been in Libya & is serving Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya(GSPLAJ) since past 28 years, and has earned a good name amongst the major construction companies in Libya.

Major projects:

  • Utility, infrastructure & maintenance Works for highway & sea side road, marking the main eastern outlet from the capital city Tripoli, in to the country, for a length of 11 km & sewerage, storm water laying as well as maintenance works for entire Tajura area for client GCBC (General Company of Building & Construction).

My role in the project was to lead & manage the workforce of more than 80 workers of various nationalities, towards completion of the awarded labor contract of works to company. Although I was recruited as a Senior Planning Engineer, I was given charge of the project. My daily works primarily involved making of daily progress report, progress for previous day, actual works achieved during the day and planned works for next day and submit the same to the head office and the client & consultant. Since it was a labor contract, the performance of works depend on the supply of material & machinery from the client, which many a times material was not available and machinery was breakdown, causing the labor to sit idle at site. I make the breakdown report & material unavailability report and idle manpower report and get it signed by concerned engineer of the client same or next day, thereby producing documentation for future claims. I was reporting all the achieved work to the planning manager at head office by generation of reports from primavera after weekly update of the program for progressed works.

  • Replacement of existing Storm Water line by GRP in the city of Ziletan, Approximate length of the laying for 1.5 m diameter GRP was 15 Km.

My role here was to make a master program of execution of works & get it approved from the consultant/client & assist the deputy projects manager with all required support by maintaining proper record of documentation, making of daily progress & monthly progress reports, provide technical guidance to the work force engaged in site to read & understand engineering drawings, bar bending schedule, especially for cast-in-situ manholes.

  • Construction of 1000 housing units & development of a township in two plots will all required amenities & infrastructure at Sirte in Libya.

My role is to assist the planning manager with daily update of works in the primavera, loading of resources, making daily progress report, Provide project manager & engineers with the look ahead. Make billing & consumption & stock record mainly for steel and cement.

Achievement: Following an interview after reaching Libya, with the General Manager Projects. I was assigned the responsibility of leading a work force of over 80 workers of various nationalities engaged in completing a long delayed (9 years) labor contract project of development of infrastructure in Tajura area in Libya. The project when started was estimated for 2 years duration. This project was incurring losses for the client as well as contractor, and was stuck at an unknown stage. I referred all the available documentation related to the project. After detailed study, making proper documentation & co-ordination with the Client & GM projects DSC (Contractor), I was able to provide clear view of the status of the project to both the parties. It was then decided after joint meeting to complete the possible works & make the final bill & handover the project to the Client (General Company of Building & Construction). So, I expedite to finish the balance works, prepared final bill submitted & got it approved by the Client. This effort limited further losses to both the parties.
