Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

I am running a Programme in P3, with planning unit set to Hours.

Hi Philip,

Charles is quite correct. The problem is you cannot have the best of both worlds. The normal thing to do is run the programme in days, dependant on the overall duration and type of project, and use manhours in the resources, it is the closest youget to thre optimum. The trick is using the right lags in the logic, ie for example where you have activities with durations of less than a day, use FS -1, to keep them in the same day, but resource them correctly.

Obviosly in shutdown or turnaround situations you need to plan by the hour.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Planning unit is hours maybe good for projects with short duration.

but for projects that last more than one year, maybe it is not advisable.

So determine first if it is really practical to use planning unit in hours.

What you could do is to create a text CDI.

Export this and your activity data to Excel, and format appropriately. Then import back to P3.

Hi,
Suggestion use hourly much better.. cause once U change daily unit very difficult to change the unit in hour back. Only thing, when u use hour, takes time to click the button to find what time the work finish and waste time if it is not required. But in terms of accuracy, very good. Its depends to the schedule, is it meet the contract / client requirement.

Philip,

a) Create custom data items.
b) Use global change to modify the duration from hours to days.
