CPM and PDM methods

Hi Labros,

ADM and PDM (in the title) are both variants of CPM developed in the USA.

ADM = Arrow Diagramming Method (the original CPM technique)

PDM = Precedence Diagramming Method

CPM = Critical Path Method (ie, a single deterministic duration estimate).

MPM = Meta Potential Method, was developed in Europe around the same time as PDM but independently.

For more on the developments see: http://www.mosaicprojects.com.au/PDF_Papers/P042_History%20of%20Scheduing.pdf

MPM uses a single duration estimate but has more link options than PDM. PDM has the 4 link types FS, SS, FF and SF only and these can be implemented differently in various software tools to create different answers.  MPM adds a number of other variants. Generally, the two processes will get similar results, the real difference though will be in the way different software tools deal with conflicts created by different link types.
