Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Afternoon,

What would be your "types of programme" when based on site (for example);

  • Contract Prog
  • Target Prog
  • Short Term Prog
  • Variation Prog

How would you monitor / control variations on site?

Michael,

Normally, you only have one agreed programme approved by the Engineer or Project Manager. This agreed programme is your contract or baseline programme. Then you monitor your performance by updating your programme on a weekly or monhtly basis and you compare your performance against your target (Baseline). The Engineer may require you to submit detailed short term programme like 3 or 4 weeks look ahead or 3 months look ahead but these programmes should be in line with the original baseline programme only in a more detailed format. Now, you need to monitor any variation by making a log of the changes or any deviaton from the original scope. Note that not all variation orders have impact on the programme, normally at some point in time you will ask for EOT especially if a variation has impacted the critical path or has delayed the project. Once the Engineer has granted you or the contractor an EOT, then that is the only time you need to re-baseline and incorporate the events which have impacted your programme.

You need to tell your site Engineers that they should report any works variations or any site instructions which deviates from the original scope of work. These works should be log, monitored and recorded in terms of the time and the resources used. Records are important for substantiation when making claims and this is basically how you monior and control variations.

Regards,

Daniel

It is level 4 programme which is nothing but a detailed programme of works incorporating all the services/trades involved in the project.

You can monitor your progress based on the detailed programme .Any variation on occurrence should be incorporated for further monitoring and controlling purpose
