Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi all,

i have a couple quick questions.

ill explain what im after then maybe you could point me in the right direction as to where i am going wrong.........

basically i have a programme set up with fixed costs, resource costs and timescales - everything you would expect. when i come to update my project with actuals i would like to keep the  actual activity durations and incurred costs as something completely different.

i want to simply have the activitys and the associated costs as programmed totally seperate to stop it messing up my actuals? does this make sense?

for example - i have site supervision as an activity with 100 man hours spread over three resources. when i update the projects status percent complete to say 50%. 50 man hours has been automatically calculated? - with disregard to what they have actually done - for which i want to input seperately, i want to be able to progress the activity but without the incured cost of hours associated.

i think i have missed a fundamental  here when i have set up each of the activities with regards to how i am wanting to record my costs........

hope im making sense

thanks

steve

im going to try and rephrase this as im probably not making sense, so ignore the above.......

basically i am inputting the actual data of hours in as the programme develops up against my baseline - i have allocated a certain percentage of someones time to a certain activity.

therefore there hours have been profiled on a daily basis which is great. however on the monday for example i have them baslined working for 4 hours in toal - but they actually worked 24 hours. this has now made my percentage complete as 50% but the project isnt actually that in the real world it is about 10% as this extra time they have spent was not accounted for (typical civils).

i want to cut the line between this link as my programme says they have 24 hours left however they may have 100 hours left who knows. as soon as i type in 24 hours the money has gone and the percentage complete is 100% but in reality it isnt and is still onsite. this is therefore going to show on my gant as complete when it isnt in reality?

as i mentioned above i think its the way i have set up my programme........

any input would be appreciated guys, i think i just need it breaking down as im probaly trying to manage it wrong?

thanks
