My initial training included 8 weeks theoretical training covering project aspects such as project schedule, work break down structures (WBS). Project tracking and progress review. Cost elements included costing and estimating, cost allocation to work packages and financial reporting.On completion of the theoretical training, I was posted out to a project (Medupi Power Station) to receive practical training within a project environment and timing constraints. This training included the following:Assist senior staff compiling work breakdown structures within the overall time span of the project ensuring that critical milestones are met.Prepare project presentations in Windows Visio and/or Power Point for client team meetings indicating WBS from level 1 -4.Compile tender registers tracking tenders issued and returned.Capture contractor bill of quantities into cost control software (Costrac)Build templates within Costrac Report Manager (Eigasoft) to control and report on Journals, purchase and work requisitions, change notices and variation ordersCapture project data and prepare cost and progress reports (graphs) to be incorporatedin the Project Managers monthly report to the client.Track project progress (MS Project)Build and maintain project specific data sets.Build data base sets, analysing data and export results to Excel Pivot tables for inclusion in client reports.Create drawing registers and build pivot tables from the data.During this period I also attend cost and progress project meetings. Where requested I compiled minutes of the meeting as well as submitted reports that were required as action items.
