Website Upgrade Incoming - we're working on a new look (and speed!) standby while we finalise the project

Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

What info do yo request to do planning & scheduling?

Let’s assume an EPC company has been awarded a major contract to develop a large project. You are hired as Planner and Scheduler to develop the plan and schedule of this large project. On the first days of your new position, what information do you request to do your job? What people do you talk first?

Johnny,

As a preparation to your programme requirements and in the absence of documents stated in posts 2 & 3, you need to read the following documents, but not limiled to:

1) Tender Programme submitted during tendering period
2) Conditions of Contract to check
a. when to submit the programme
b. contract/controlled milestones
c. full/partial access to site
d. others - need thourough reading
3) Contract Drawings
4) Technical Specifications (Scheduling requirements)
5) Current Progress Status Report (ask for copy of related programmes), if there’s ongoing report
6) Minutes of meeting
7) Letter of Award / NTP
8) Contract deliverables (Bonds, Insurances, etc.)
9) Ask the Client to have Post-Award Pre-Scheduling Meeting to have a feel or an idea what’s their scheduling requirements
10) Old datas of similar projects executed by your company
11) Long-lead items
12) Production rates and crew compositions
13).... maybe other PP’ers can add more

Good luck

Hope the above helps,

R*****

Dear Johnney,

You can purchase the PMBOK from www.pmi.org and start learning about the Planning Process. It clearly explains the step towards creating a schedule.

If you have more specific questions afterwards, let us know.

With kind regards,

Samer

Hi Johnny,

Much of your queries can be found in one of the papers in the Planning Engineers website: http://www.planningengineers.org/publications/papers.aspx

Look for "Questions to ask when drawing a programme for a construction project" by Gary France. A wonderful read. I hope it’s as applicable to an EPC job too.

Kind regards

Rubas
