This competency matrix has been developed for use primarily within the UK consulting industry, and as such may require some tailoring for use elsewhere.

It has 4 main functions:

1) For use as a self-assessment tool, to support and guide planner-led learning.

2) For use as a part of a structured performance and development review process between Planners and their Line Managers.

This file documents the output of a post-project review of a project which suffered severe delays to completion, designed specifically to capture lessons learned for avoiding such situations on future projects within the same programme of works. The project in question was an expansion and upgrade of an existing process plant, which had to remain in operation throughout project implementation.

This excel file is designed to generate a 2-page Monthly Project Schedule Report, suitable for presentation to senior management or potentially clients. The first 2 tabs (“Summary” and “Commentary”) form the submitted report (to be submitted in PDF format), with the remaining tabs being repositories for information used to generate the “front-end”.

The purpose of this document is to provide general guidance to be followed when using constraints in P6 schedules, or approving P6 schedules on behalf of clients. The guidance covers the effect of each constraint type on the schedule, plus advice for appropriate use. It is written based on P6 constraints and terminology, but similar principals will apply across other software packages.

Planners are frequently required to review and accept or reject project schedules on behalf of our clients. Contracts often provide limited detail on what makes for an acceptable schedule, so this document is designed to provide some additional guidance on the matter.
