Schedule Logs

Dear fellow planners,

I would like to get your background on how you are using "Schedule logs" created after calculation.

I mean, there is a lot of interesting information in it like errors or warnings (Activities w/o pred, w/o succ, with invalid relationship,...).

Firstly, this is a good report to clean some hidden mistakes but:

- Do you use it for other purpose (like claim, internal analyse,...) ?

- Do you compare rate of relationship Qty to Activities ? What is telling you that a schedule is not linked or too much ?

- ...

Milestones and Key dates WBS

Hi Knowledgeable professionals,

Please should all milestones be gathered under a unique WBS (e.g. a WBS named "Milestones and Keydates") or should it be inserted within the WBS containing the deliverable that is related to the milestones (e.g. Engineering milestones should be under "Engineering WBS", MEP milestones under "MEP works" WBS).

Thanks in advance for your valuable help.

Integrate P6 with Esimate

R
Rob Kane 👤 Member for 22 years 5 months

Hi Guys,

Has anyone out there had any experience with integrating the schedule with the estimate.

My organisation currently works with an estimating depatment that goes off and builds an estimate (they use expert & or Candy) at the same time we have the planners building a project schedule in P6.

We dont currently have a system to integrate the two sources of data.

Schedule Review Meetings

M
Miguel Rios 👤 Member for 16 years 8 months

The client is organizing a bi-weekly Schedule Review Meeting. The proposed invitees are the planner, the project controls manager, and the project manager from the client side. On our side, we have the project manager, the project controls manager, the engineering leads, the procurement manager, the construction manager, and myself. No agenda has been indicated yet. The time slot is 1 hour.

What would be an appropriate agenda for this kind of meetings? What should be the topics discussed? What is the recommended time slot for each topic?

SIMOPS Planning

Hi

I find it very difficult to plan the SIMOPS into the schedule. Say you have a limited work area and you have hi-pressure activities such as leak tests in that area. When you do the leak tests, all other activities must stop.

What I have done is to mark the hi-pressure activities in a special code and try to push away or bring forward the non-hi pressure activities such that they don't coincide with the hi pressure activities.

Doing this by using predecessors is very time-consuming.
