Negative Float

Hi everyone
We all know that having a negative float means there is a constraint and it affects the EV calculations of LOE activities.
In our company there are two finisg milestones
1- plan completion date
2- contract completuon date

At the begining of the project they are the same and we have a constraint on the second one to be fixed and showing the delays by those negative float.
My boss says this is the best way to show the delays.
Any thoughts and alternatives on that?

Importing into P6 using Microsoft Excel

I have been using P6 a long time but only import actuals and changes using MS Excel occassionally.  I have forgotten the "little things", - it is not importanting all of the data - what are the common mistakes? - Do I have to put a U somewhere or include some account code or something, possibly some things cannot be updated?  I do not know what I am forgetting.

P6 XML Import Technical Issue

Hi,

I have a P6 XML file generated from 3rd party software. The XML file imports into P6 v19 fine, which has an Oracle database.

 

Trying to import onto other instances of P6 fails e.g. V16.1, v22.1 even Oracle cloud.

 

I think there is an XML tag missing or maybe mandatory data missing. The thing in common seems to be when fail, uses SQL Server or SQLLite database.

Technique for Computing Estimate to Complete (ETC) not working

Hello,

I am using Primavera P6 R22.12 but I had the same problem in P6 R19.12.

I am trying to compute ETC using a PF = 1/CPI, but P6 does not recognize my CPI.

My CPI for the project is 0.94, BAC $4,000 and EV $1,300. Using the techinque where PF = 1/CPI the ETC should be $2,700/0.94 computing to $2,872 but as displayed in the below screen shot P6 computes ETC = $2,700.

Any input?

EPS Nodes & Project Files

I have certain data fields that apply to all of the projects within a node. Rather than maintinaing that data on each project schedule file it would make sense to manage them at the EPS node. However the fields available to the EPS Node are limited. 

I am able to add User Defined Fields which can be added to all nodes and project files but they are just text fields and it's not possible to control the data. 

Any ideas / guidance appreciated.

100 Global Calendars -

I work on many projects, how do I ensure my 100 calendars and tons of resources etc do not infect the machines of people I give projects back to?  Shouldn't everyone always use Project Calendars if you ever share?  Shouldn't people always use "new Calendar" on import because changes to an existing calendar would change old schedules correct?  How do you avoid proliferation then?  Are there differences in P6 versions regarding the handling of Calendars?

ETC different than Budgeted labour units for not started activity

Hello,



So a collegue showed me a weirdd situation in P6: an activity that hasn't started yet, however the estimate to complete labour units are different (lower) than the budgeted labour units. It seems odd for this to happen and I can't think of any explanation, especially for an activity with no actuals. Even the WBS EV caluclation considers ETC = BAT - EV.



Any ideas how is this caused and how to fix it?

Float Path in Group and sort

Hi

I was watching a video in which it used the following picture for group and sort and also filtered the activities on " in progress" and " Not started" 

What is the benefit of using this?

Is it for seeing the critical activities? If yes, why not just filtering by " critical"?

( Would also appreciate it if you let me know what is the meaning of float path and what is the use of it)

How to edit gray boxes in Resource Usage Spreadsheet

Hi All,

I am trying to distribute hours using resource usage spreadsheet. some of the boxes have turned gray and i can not edit them.

Activities haven't started

actual hours are 0

budgeted hours = remaining hours

Refer to activity "Insert seismic bracing" in below snapshot.

Duartion type is Fixed Units. All activities are fixed units and i was able to edit them. Its just these couple of activities.[[wysiwyg_imageupload::]]
