Expenses vs costs loading of programmes - Primavere P6 v.6.2

Afternoon,

More and more contractors programmes submitted are expenses loaded as opposed to costs loaded. Could someone give me a summary of pros and cons for doing so from both a contractor and an employer perspective? Thanks a lot.

Creating the ultimate references.

Greetings,

We all know that when it comes to construction, it never ends of how many items of work it contains, how many construction methodologies it does have. A successful planner is a one who puts his schedule explaining the sequence of activities in his project, but no matter how many of Field experience he got before he start working on planning, there will be always something missing.

Construction CPM Conference

Its not too late... The Construction CPM Conference starts on the 27th January and aims to be the most dynamic Construction CPM sessions yet, interspersed with spellbinding New Orleans entertainment!!  The Conference is sandwiched between the very beginning of the 2013 Carnival Season and the Super Bowl Game; so we’ll have a taste of each.

I'm certainly looking forward to traveling to the Big Easy for what is probably the world's best CPM conference to learn new things, present a couple of papers and enjoy the carnival.

Loading and Welding Sequence of Pipes on Racks

M
Mike Testro 👤 Member for 20 years 6 months

Hi All Welding Experts

I am putting together a baseline programme for a large industrial plant where the pipeline contractor is telling me that his planned sequence of work for each section of piperack was:

Start loading out prefab pipes - biggest / heaviiest on high racks then smaller / lighter on the low racks.

Welding then starts on the high rack pipes while loading out is going on below.

I have my doubts about this sequence on two of fronts:

1. Health and Safety Rules with welding overhead of loading out.

2.

Using lags in link between tasks vs using a separate task with duration of a lag

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 5 months

Dear all,

May be it is a stupid question, but I could never understand the reason to use lags in links between tasks. In a simple FS link, lag would mean, that one task can only start with some delay after the first one has finished. However in reality there must be some reason for this delay (e.g. paint will dry or whatever). So in this case, why not just add an extra task with the duration of a lag? This will make the schedule more transparent also will allow more flexibility in controlling the lag as one can add also calendar, comment, give it a miningful name  etc.

Updating Microsoft Project

I am updating a microsoft project baseline only on the basis of % completed recieved from contractors for diffrent activities. My schedule is just a list of activities with no cost or resource linked to it. Is it the tright way to update the progress if yes How would you suggest to show the forecast finish dates do i need to manuaaly change it everytime or there is some other way e.g. if actual progress is not as per planned progress than how to show change of planned finish date?
