Dear all,

I have been using MS Project for a while and now have allocated some time to look at other programs. As a part of this investigation I compared resource leveling algorithms of them (I am one of those, who believe, that resource leveling is very important for the scheduling software).

So, I just want to share my results. I also welcome your comments.  As this is related to several tools, I am posing this here in a none-tool specific part of the forum.

3D Time-Location diagram

The 3D Gantt, resulting of the 3D WBS, allows first of all to identify graphically the importance of the project interfaces by evaluating the distance between the tasks, but it allows also to display a 3D time-location diagram, as shown below, in the case of a linear project...

Data Date Explained...

S
S M 👤 Member for 13 years 8 months

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has a simple explanation of the Data date, what it is, what it's used for and how you would use a data date when you were updating a schedule weekly and updating a schedule monthly?

I'm aware of the data date I've just never found an exact, easy to understand definition and explanation of the concept.

I also need to pass this information on so would appreciate if I had a mastery of the subject matter first!

Thanks for your help,

Henry Gantt - Debunking the myths

It may come as a big surprise to many, but Henry L. Gantt did not invent bar charts despite many people miss-labelling them ‘Gantt Charts’ and he had nothing to do with developing project management either!

This definitive paper highlights the origins of bar charts in Scotland in the 18th century and looks at Gantt’s real work in manufacturing – when you have finished reading it, I hope you will agree the following myths should be ‘busted’ once and for all:

Software R&D management: commercial VS academic needs

Hello everyone,

I'm a project manager in a research institute in Russia. Our team comprises ~20 developers.

In the last 4 years, our main amusement was outsourcing software R&D projects for IT companies.

On the one hand, we are supposed to quickly (4-6 months for a project) deliver proof-of-concept prototypes with measured accuracy and performance, as well as to devise demo web-applications.
