WBS

Hi All,

Just having a discussion on a recent schedule for a program I am working on, where an activity did not occur and has now been highlighted as a miss from the WBS. It is involved cycle development of piece of equipment.

The standard WBS we use calls out cycle development and is further broken down in(1) protcols / documentation, (2)execution and (3) reports. I break out each of these per piece of equipment as needed and picked up during the interactive planning session.

Can anyone telll me what is the level a WBS needs to go to, ie.

How all the tree structures of projects are linked ?

A discipline is not a Product, a task is not an activity, a system is not a component, etc.

All the tree structures of projects are linked and you can see how here: http://3d-wbs.blogspot.fr/2014/05/part-103-3d-wbs-tree-structures.html

Working with Sub Projects

We have a contractor who is using a sub project built onto our main project schedule.

Our data date is a month different from theirs (theirs being a month behind ours). When looking at the critical path and you accept relationships from other projects can there be an issue from having these two different dates?

Obvious is that the sub project isnt updated to the newer date but what abpout float and assessing critical paths etc?

Problems in getting updates

Hi. How can you do when the engineers/supervisors don't cooperate and are reluctant to provide updates?

I work for a contractor as a Planner. Our Project Manager and Construction Manager have high standard requirements on schedules because they need to present them to the Client in the weekly meeting. However, many engineers/supervisors are very unwilling to spend time on providing updates. We give them plenty of time and suit their convenience, but they just don't want to do it. We set a formal meeting, but many people don't show up.
