New blog post “Who Cares about the Cost of Time? ” is just up at the Total Project Control website

The new blog explains why the value/cost of time on projects is not only of great importance to the project manager, but also to the sponsor/customer. It also shows the dramatic way that the cost of time is framed in the movie The Imitation Game.

You can find it here.

Earned Value Question - Rebaselining a Firm Fixed Price Contract?

J
Jeff Smith 👤 Member for 11 years 5 months

All,

I know this has been discussed before, but wanted to get some new feedback on the topic.

I have an earned value question associated with rebaselining a schedule on a firm fixed price contract.  I’m an owner and I’m using EV concepts to monitor my project.  For the first few months I experienced no contract modifications so my CPI value was always 1 with my SPI varying slightly based on how the contractor was doing.

PROGRESS UPDATE

Dear Gentlemen,

To do the Progress Update, you need to incorporate the % of work done, actual dates and change the logic if there is out of sequence. Am i right or wrong? Because the PM said that the Contractor is not allowed to change the links since it is the approved baseline program.

Please advice.

Regards,

Program Duration

Hi guys,

I have created two programs in p6. Both showing activities over a certain period of time. One is showing critical activities which if can't be done during the allocated time, must be done during an allocated possesion with no allowance for risk. The other program shows all activities, due to be complete on time.

My issue is how do I merge both programs to show the minimum time needed, maximum time needed and most likely duration for both programs.

Would appreciate any help on this.

Approval for Revision Programme

Dear All,

Please provide your comments regarding this matter.

We have given approval for the Baseline programme & after that there was a 2 months delay had occurded due to a Employers delay event but contractor did not claim any EOT (Not submitted any EOT notices up to now & issue was closed now). Now, they have submitted revised programme as per Client request & they are claming 2 months EOT in the programme but with out supporting the EOT event.

If we grant the approval for the Programme, is that mean "Contractor Entilte for the 2 Months EOT"

Average durations for engineering design studies

Hi all

I'm trying to put together a database of project plans in order to assess what an average or "normal" duration is for design studies within the oil & gas industry. I'm interested in the following project types - concept studies, pre-FEED, FEED and detail design/EPC projects. If anyone has any project plans they could kindly share with me then that would be a big help. PDF copies, Primavera XERs or MS project files if possible please.

Thankyou

P6 RESOURCE PROFILE

Dear Planners,

I would like to brought this to the group to get information how my resource graph shows like a step of a stair as per attachment. May someone could make me understand/explain how to make this profile smooth. The Time scale is in weekly progress Plan. But if it is in monthly (timescale) it shows good.

Thank you,

Cecil

Planned & Actual Cost in P6 + Schedule % Complete Vs Planned Value

Dear All,

I have 2 Questions:

Q1- I have loaded BOQ cost in P6. I loaded it by assigning a "COST" resource. I made budgeted units of "COST" resource  zero in all activities and loaded cost directy in budgted cost option of the resource in all activities. Problem is that when I update my program, its is not showing the actual cost. Remaining cost, Planned cost are available but actual cost is zero. What can be the reason??

See figure below.
