Dates we need to ignore

J
John Reeves 👤 Member for 13 years 1 month

I set up the usual start, finish (better than ES,EF) and then the Later Start, Late Finish.  For simple things like my Start Milestones that have ACTUALS, I get a value in the Late Start and even worse gives me a big float bar.  There should be no float on an ACTUALIZED Activity.  So this is just data we have to ignore? Where does this date come from / what does it mean? I assume some people set up UDF fields and just copy the remaining work to be less complicated for novices but this seams so strange it makes me feel I am not setting up correctly.

How did Zoltan do this on the P6 output?

J
John Reeves 👤 Member for 13 years 1 month

This is from an example that Zoltan did...how did you/he get just the ends, remaining duration portion red?  Below that is mine, I assume he used a date filter but what filter would that be?  - remaining duration?  Zoltan usually beats people to the answer but I assume others know...

P6 really needs a way to limit relationship lines. Seems like it is a spaghetti mess or northing...or filter items to get.

P6 really needs a way to limit relationship lines.  Seems like it is a spaghetti mess or northing...or filter items to get.  Or am I wrong?  Is there a way?  What is frustrating is that P3 and Suretrak could do many of things 20 years ago that P6 still cannot.  Too much time chasing the IT market and not enough simplification and graphical improvements for the AEC market that put them on the map.

Contractor is submitting baseline with settings at "Calc Mult. Float Paths" using "Free Float"

J

Contractor is submitting baseline with settings at "Calc Mult. Float Paths" using "Free Float" - would this do anything at all to change float values?  what would this do to the schedule?  should they be required to remove it?  (Personally I like to use the float path calc for a report, but I always put it back/remove it.)

P6 removes remaining labour units and costs when actualising finish.

Hi all,

I'm just after some clarification rather than help for a change. it's something we've not noticed before and it could just be us but when we actualise the finish date of an activity has P6 always removed remaining costs and units automatically?  My planners and I are sure we've had to work on costs after doing this in the past.

I just want to be sure in case someone in our organisation has changed a setting I can't see offhand to make it do this all of a sudden.

Cheers

Thom

Activity Code Description values rather than Code Value in Exporting Data

I would like to have Activity Code Description values rather than Code Value when I export data to Excel.

For Example for an Activity Code:

Code Value is Ph1       :         Code Description is Phase 1

Schedule % Complete in P6 is Duration based.

Dear Experts

I have a question on Primavera P6.

As far as i know, duration is not an appropriate unit to determine the plan or actual percentage of a project  at a particular time given. The more accurate is manhours.

Now, the schedule % complete in p6 is calculated by duration. Which means the Schedule % complete given by the software is not accurate , which implies it is not correct.

Please give me some  guidance on this.   Thank u Sir

Assistance Required - Units% doesn't actually update the actual units - SOLVED

Morning all,

This may be normal but it strikes me as odd.  The first time I update my resources using the Units% complete column (resources tab) it updates as I'd expect.  So someone with 100 units I update 10% actual becomes 10 units.  However as the project progresses I update again this time 25% only this time it updates the remaining but not the actual meaning you have to manually calculate all the acutals and update them as such.
