Spam messages

There seems to be a lot of spamming messages these days. I delete them when I find them, but it is quite time consuming and onerous.

 

What is the procedure for blocking users who post spam?

Hi Team,

We have tweaked the PP Admin so that it can accept Messages using the internal message system.  Sorry, it seems it was not allowing you to message that account.

We have blocked the offending accounts and are looking into a system that can help prevent the www's systems from creating such dodgy accounts etc.

Hi Gary

I had exactly the same problem when I encountered the Viagra Merchant with identical blocks - I ended up deleting the post.

It would help if Moderators could send a direct message to the offendor.

I tried searching the planning database for "Viagra" and got a surprising number of valid threads - particularly in the Planicusnecrophilica thread.

I tried to PM you about a spammer, but got the following error:

  • Disallowed to send a message without at least one valid recipient
  • The following users will not receive this private message: PP Admin

Hi Gary,

If you send to PP Admin the user details (right click on their name and copy the url) of obvious offenders and an example of the offending post we can contact the member with a warning, then we can block the member if needed.

If anyone has any ideas on what we need to implement to help, do let us know.
