Arnold,

I am aware it has been 4 or 5 years since you posted on this thread, yet you are still getting requests for you to email.

Could you please advise if you are still sending this stuff out? If not, i shall lock the thread closed.

Thanks,

Dear Mr. Arnold,

Can you please share with me the procedure of Generating S curve in P6.

My Email ID: riyaz.ssits@gmail.com.

Iam new to primavera and I want to generate S curve using pimavera for below scenarion.

Every year we will have many projects(Mechanical, civil,Instrument, etc) and we have to complete the projects on time.Below are the major milestones for each project.

1)Finalizing the scope of work

2)Creating PR

3)Awarding PO

4)Kick off meeting

5)DEP Approval

6)Equipment or Material Delivery

7)Construction

8)Punch list clearnace and System Handover

9)Depreciation and Closeout.

I have to track the completion status of each milestone with respect to time(duration) and I have to report the status of all ongoing projects to our Management.

Please let me know how I can generate S curve by assigning weightage to each milestone with respect to duration of milestone completion.

Your kind support will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance....

Dear Planners.

i just uploaded a Excel template for how to generate.

Dynamic S curve.( planned and earned)

Dynamic Summary Progress report.

Dynamic Detailed Progress report.

https://www.box.net/s/ryfxdtnnyhz7qpufgp5l

for the planned value either you import directly from P6, or generate it using the early start and OD, but it is a very simplistic approach, as it suppose the distribution is linear and there is no holidays in the duration of the activity.

in the budget, put whatever you have either manhours or cost, or just value to map your weightage.

the progress is weekly based, you just put the value of the cumulative physical progress in %

and sorry for the hideous Histograms, i am trying to figure out how to change the setting in Excel chart.

hope this help

P6 will not directly export %ages per time (x-axis) to excel and generate the s-curve from there.

The first post of Arnold is telling you how to export resources; but this is for resource loading per activity only.

P6 will only give you the resource allocation per time (month/week/year) per resource or group or resources, and this will be the basis of you S-curve in excel;

The resource allocation per time is generated thru the reports, or thru the resource assignments tab feature of P6

Hi Rafael

I don’t have much knowledge of computer setting but have but am receiving mails contain a same word in the beginning or in the middle from different senders. I made a filter with [if the “Subject” “contains” ----- sent to folder ------]. Now all of such mails are coming in to my new folder. This is because some time these mail are from my contacts also that I don’t want the server to block.  This may help you.

Thanx

Can any of the moderators lock this thread as to stop annoying “e-mail me” messages? Every time someone posts a request for the file I receive an e-mail message for each posting, I cannot find a way to stop these annoying e-mails.

It can be with a note reminding PP members they can still ask for the file by contacting the person through PP messaging system. Don’t delete the thread; leave the option open for those who want the file.

Please.

Again I un-clicked the e-mail me option on this screen, to give it a last chance. It would be unfair if I have to change my e-mail on the PP database to a fictitious as to avoid these e-mails, this will rule me out of the PP messaging service.

Best regards,

Rafael

Thanks anyway It was not just this thread, after posting in many threads this started to happen in more and more threads until it became intolerable. I had no other opton than to change my e-mail in the PP database to a fictitious one, ruling me out of the messaging service and of the notice from postings on threads of my interest.

Sorry

Just trying to stop e-mail me every time someone ask for a copy, is kind of annoying.

I just uncliked the e-mail me box, getting to this window is the only way I know to get into the option, hope this time works as I tried before and did not worked. Is a kind of a life sentence from various threads, is not just this one.

If someone knows how to stop it please let me know how I will appreciate it very much.

For months I have been dealing with this but as more and more threads start to show the "send me a copy" behavior it has become too much.

For the record I just double checked I unchecked the E-mail me selection box on this screen.

Best regards,

Rafael

By the way even as an Enterprise Tool P6 is not so good, is full of bugs and missing many of the functionality that was available in enterprise software of the 60’s and 70’s. Like ARTEMIS for example.

Yes you got it right, your call is appropriate, I do appreciate a lot all our members no matter what software they do use. I even consider P6 the suitable tool when you need an Enterprise application, like when you are a Utility Co. but from P3e to P6 the software is no good for the average construction contractor, is a monster.

Primavera started getting everywhere long ago, it even took over PMI, just look at their definition of Time Impact Analysis and you will read about "Fragents" only available in P3 and maybe absent in P6. These and many similar specs were written by the servants of Primavera who have vested interest in their products and do not care about the American spirit for free enterprise.

The problem is that this thing is taking over where it is not the appropriate tool. My fear is that eventually Government Agencies will require you to use it.

I always thought that universities should develop open source software that would be available free to be used in government jobs, to satisfy government needs, that can be modified by any developer. Then these modifications could be tested and certified to be used as a substitute in these jobs.

Calm Down Rafael,

Dont mix ur oracle merger thread with this. Getting S-Curve in P6 is very easy. Its the people who dont want to take pain or otherwise they dont have time to get things in detail.

But i do agree with ur opinion abt P6/Oracle.

It would be easier if you buy at a Flea Market some 20 years old software that can do this at the click of the mouse.

If you want to get rid of the mouse then P3 DOS version might be a bargain.

Faster, better and cheaper.

Thank you, Arnold, it works great, you are a great help. but it is a pity that this kind of problem exists in this costly package

Hi Wungyea,

Yes, that’s correct. However, there is a workaround to play with the 6 digits or more than. In order to do that, try the following:

1. Let say you have 10 digits (e.g. 1234567890).

2. In this case, you can only have the 6 digits as a whole number but you can have as many numbers with decimals places (e.g. 123456.7890).

3. In order to convert the decimal into whole number, you need to delete the period/dot (.) using (<-) backspace or delete on your keyboard.

4. Just simply point your cursor in between the 6 & 7 numbers and delete the point/dot using the No. 3 step. The result 9e.g. from 123456.7890 to 1234567890).

Try this and let us know.

Arnold ,

I have a question if you could help.

In using your recommendation method to generate S curve, I fould that the "Divided interval totals by" can just accept 6 digits and no more , is there any setting I forget?
