Dieter, Patricia - Thanks for the advise
Graeme
Hi
There are some more items to be observed because many start using MSP without any training or consideration. Having imported many MPP-files I found 80 to 90% with user errors, mainly:
- Calendars misused and not maintained ("P6 calculates wrong dates!" "If you would have included Christmas or other exceptions you would find the same dates.")
- Planned with fixed durations but the default "effort driven" still used inclusive resource calendars.
Many more are quite common. So first I open a project in MSP to check before import.
Regards
Dieter
Greame,
As soon as you succeed in importing from MSP due to Dieters advice, take care, if you want to use EVM, of troubles we encounter with MSP Imports.
See for instance :

Good luck.

MSP must be installed on the pc from where you start the import. Primavera uses OLE-technique (Object Linking and Embedding) which means it uses MSP functions for import and export of MPP-files. Its independent from server or standalone.
Good luck!
