Are you suggesting that the use of deadlines gives different results each time you use them? I have found the impact of a deadline on task slack to be quite predictable.

Just a word of advice. Critical path calculations, using the software, are notoriously unreliable. If you have used any date constraints or "Deadline" dates etc, all these will be calculated as part of the critical path. If your schedule is fully networked and linked, and allowed to "float" with no "deadlines", then you have a reasonble chance of getting a reliable result.

You can insert the field called "Critical" into the gantt chart. If it is ’Yes’ then the task is critical. You can also look at the Detail Gantt view to see the Critical Tasks as Red bars on the Gantt chart.
