One of the engineering wonders of the £5.2bn project CTRL was completed in 2003, the Thurrock Viaduct, the link between the Thames tunnel and Rainham Marshes. Thurrock Viaduct is one of the most spectacular achievements of the CTRL, a new viaduct crossing over the existing railway lines, over the Dartford Tunnel exit ramps and underneath the Queen Elizabeth the 2nd Bridge. This 1 km long viaduct was constructed over a year.
Richard started his career as a planner in 1978 at the Military Vehicle Establishment in Surrey, UK, helping to develop the next battle tank, and quickly learned how not to run a project. It overran cost and schedule so badly it was cancelled! It was at this time he learned Artemis (on system No.2 !) or Apollo as it was then called, which effectively guaranteed him employment for the next 20 years.
