Simplyifing updating Portfolio projects in p6

Dear All,

I'm  updaing protfolio projects in p6 , which they are many , need time and effort to do them  manually.

I'm  receiving date from project engineers , what the best way to make it automated .

I mean how should be the fromate of  spreed sheet , if i imported automatically  it will updated in p6.

HELP with updating Issues - predecessor complete but remaining duration doesn't calc. from the DD

I have updated my data date and updated the remaining durations for activities but a few would have a remaining duration of 2 days, but the forecast finish date would be two week out.

 

The predecessor was complete (both start and finish checked complete). Also, the gnatt char bar separates the actual progress from the remainng duration.

Has anyone seen this problem and know the solution?

Resource allocation practice

Hi,

My programme consists of huge excavation / area grading work for which we are going to use 6 excavators. We have divided the whole area in 6 parts and excavation gonna start in all the areas at same time, hence consurrent work. So in the programme I have to assign resources to these activities. So among the following which is the best practice:

1) create and assign a generic resource called Excavator to all the concurret activities which will show overallocation of resources

EP C CM master shedule and integration with other scheduels and interfaces

Dear All,

What would it be the best, efficient way to manage an EP C CM (where C is construction and CM is pre&commissioning) schedule with 4 main construction sub-contractors and important client interfaces (utilities supply and permits).

The EP C CM schedule has been split in 3 linked schedules:

  • EP schedule (engineering + procurement): linked to construction.
  • C schedule (Construction) : linked to pre and commissioning.
  • CM schedule: includes pre and commissioning.

The C schedule contains 4 construction contractor schedules:

Translating delay % into days

Dear all, 

May i know how do you calculate how many days that have been delayed for a project from % variance?

For example:

Planned 50% vs Actual 45% = Delayed by 5%

Currently, I calculated the delayed days, Forecast Finish Date - Baseline Finish Date and will get some numbers. 

FYI, I'm from Owner side and the contractor's scheduler showing different calculation on getting the delay days using some formula & weightage.

MS Project - Thirds of Months?

One of my Project Managers just asked me a question I couldn't answer.

You can imagine my acute embarassment and changrin. The very thought of being less knowledgable than a PM makes me shudder, so any help would be much appreciated.

Why does MS Project have the option of displaying thirds of months on the timeline? You can display Beginning/Middle/End (BME) of a calendar month.

Who reports in this manner? Why would you need to see this?

Has anybody heard of this before?
