Preferred progress Measurement Technique

S
sam dsoza 👤 Member for 19 years 11 months

Hello
I would like to solicit advice on preferred progress Measurement technique in P6. Pros and cons of physical vs duration etc.
Would it.make sense to build resources loaded schedule (labor non labor) if the duration is 15 months.
Which method would be preferred over another if you have resources loaded in The schedule.

Retaining Activity ID logic

J
John Pease 👤 Member for 10 years 3 months

I need some help please. I have two seperate schedules linked together by activity ID's, but on a monthly basis I will need to update and produce copy files and re-write the links because they are not retainied. The Project ID changes but not the Activity ID remains the same.

This is obvioulsy time consuming, and because the schedules are updated they will be individually different files. So the question is can you retain the links between schedules even if they may have different data date etc. or different copies but still retain the same activity ID logic.

Programme Forecast

I have been asked as a client-planner to produce an impact analysis in the graphical form of a delay which has been raised by contractor accepted by the client. Apparently what comes to mind is an S curve to forecast new completion date considering contractor usually submit xer file. Just want to clarify if anyone has done this before using any other method as against the aforementioned

Resource lookahead

C
Codge 1992 👤 Member for 7 years 9 months

Hello.  I am a project manager for a design consultancy and we currently use P6 to manage out programmes, and then an excel sheet as a visual representation for lookahed purposes. My manager has requested that i investigate whether there is a better way of doing things rathetr than doubling ip on work and populating a s/s from multiple P6 printouts.

Do you have any specific filters that you use / excel sheets that you populate that make P6 a bit more visual to look at for a lookahead point of view?

Impact of Global calendar vs Activity based calendar

Hi Guys,

If a programme has a default Global calendar with two days a week off ( sat/sunday), and it is ticked as default in calendars. But, the individual activities have three different calendars, 6 days a week, 7 days a week and the default one, stated above.

Which one takes precdence in scheduling? What is the difference between default calendar and then choosing separate activity based calendars?

Thanks
