General planning comments and questions.
I have some experience in oil & gas EPC projects but almost no experience in mining projects. Can anyone tell me what are the differences between oil & gas EPC projects and mining EPC projects? (EPC = Engineering, Procurement and Construction).
Dear all,I took on an EPC programme as a client-planner with three different contractors on it. At the end of the month, these three contractors submit their programmes separately, and I analysed and produced various reports for Senior Management curves, EVM etc The company have now asked me to develop an integrated masterworks programme not more than 300 – 500 activities and to show the critical path. The only overlap and dependencies in these EPC programmes when they are combined is when they get to commissioning stage.

I need to link the Engineering portion of an EPC schedule of an oil & gas project to the Procurement portion where I have tagged equipments and bulk materials. The first activity of the Procurement portion for each purchase order is "Issue RFQ" (Request for Quotation). I need a predecessor from the engineering portion so that I can link it to this activity ("Issue RFQ") for the following items:
Tagged Equipments:
- Vessels
- Pumps
- Generators / Compressors
Bulk Materials:
- Piping
- Structural steel

23 years ago I left the construction industry & became a fire fighter. I’m now a mid level senior officer. I’m considering starting up a one man construction planning consultancy. If it works out I may leave the fire service at some point.

I'm managing a programme of 30 projects and I'm using a macro planning which highlights project phases (Initiation, Design, Execution, Closure) and sanctioning Milestones + Reviews.
I would understand how to ease my job of programme coordinator in supervising each project progress and, above all, guiding and stimulating Project manager to carry out specific reviews or respect Sanctioning Milestones.
There's any way to connect a planning to Outlook with alerts or automatic emails?

I am a mature student who has decided to cross over in to the AEC field from the food industry. I have no experience as yet in AEC but am hoping to get an opportunity in the planning side of things.
I am considering to have the subject title above as my dissertation topic and would like some help and pointers on resources, case studies etc. Other suggestions for a planning related topic would also be welcome.
