P6 Calendar changes during the project

A
A T 👤 Member for 7 years 7 months

Hello

I have a couple of questions regarding the calendar within P6.

1) If you are working on a project which starts with only a day shift then so far into the project a night shift is introduced, do you need to reflect this night shift work in the calendar?

2) What difference does it make to the schedule if you change the calendar apart from changing the activity durations?

Thank you in advance

Should activity durations always be in whole days? (P6)

A

Hello

I am just starting out in planning and I don't have much experience when it comes to estimating durations.

My question is, is it best practice to use whole days when inputting activity durations? I understand that having fraction or decimals of days can cause activities with one day duration to span across two days etc.

For example if you are working an 8 hour day and estimate an activity to take 10 hours then it will take one man approx 1.25 days.

As-built Time-Chainage Chart

Dear all,

I need urgent help to draft a chart demonstrating type of work (with diferrent color) over the chainage of the road (x axis), and time (y axis).

Basis data is construction log that contains in columns those information: Date, from chainage, to chainage and type of work.

The chart should look like Horizontal lines with different colors on different levels in accordance with the date axis.

Which industries do planning professionals work in? (other than construction)

I'm interested in a career in planning, but am also wondering if they can work in many industries? I know they work in construction and oil and gas. But what other industries? I'm interested in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, renewables and others.

Creating Phasing Plans......

Hi,

I am a planning engineer working on Highways projects. At tender stage I create phasing diagrams to accompany the programme.

I was just wondering what software people use to create their phasing plans. I have previously just used Paint or Word to overlay shapes onto site drawings but find this method quite primitive.

Any suggestions of better methods to create a much more proffesional output?

Thanks,

Andrew
