Relationships while Updating

R
Raj Kalavar 👤 Member for 15 years 3 months

I've joined a company as a scheduler and their philosophy doesnt make sense to me. They tell me if the activity is completed, relationships doesnt matter. For example, Activity A is predecessor to Activity B with FS relationship and no lags. They say it is ok for activity B to have start and finish dates ahead of those of Activity A, as long as both activities are completed. They do that all over the schedule and always leave the original relationships.

I believe it is wrong to do that even if activities are completed.

Does TIME-COST trade offs have any relevance in planning practice?

Dear all,

Probably all of you aware the fact that modern project management is tight together with the development of Pert, and CPM. I guess you know it too, that the original CPM method was a sophisticated cost optmization method, which could optimize the so called direct costs to a given project duration.

My question 1.: Why did we forget this technique? Was it due to:

BULK MATERIAL HANDLING WBS FOR AN EPC

I am working on tailoring a work breakdown structure for the construction of a coal fired power plant for an EPC organisation. I am facing a challenge in defining a WBS that covers the bulk material from engineering, procurement through to construction.

Could you please advise on the most effective means of developing such a WBS.

Looking forward to your advice.

Regards

Ishmael

P6 vs Microsoft Project

G
Greg Gibbon 👤 Member for 15 years 1 month

Guys,

I do not have a lot of first hand knowledge of the latest version of Microsoft Project. A client company is considering moving from Primevera P6 to Microsoft Project for their projects ($500M to $3B) on a corporate basis with around 10 or so of these projects going simultaneously on a single server. I didn't think Project was capable of this. What is the view?

Dynamic Scheduling Questionnaire Survey

Hello

Not sure if this is the right forum but..

I just received a private message from Dynamic Scheduling asking for my participation in a survey for a software evaluation.

http://www.dynamicscheduling.net/index.php?action=survey

By the looks of it, the survey is an attempt to collect private information.

Just wanted to report it... and didn't know to whom.

Thanks
