Price escalation claims, for example from starting NTP 6 months later... - what does the contractor have to provide?  Do they have to provide both subcontractor's original quotes and revised quotes - or do they have to provide just the current quote or sub-contract?

What should be given to an estimator for an Independent Cost Estimate to ensure the the claim is reasonable - the sub-invoices with quantities but with prices redacted?

Thoughts on AI/Machine learning for Project planning and scheduling?

Hi PP members, I thought I'd ask a general question, and one that no doubt we'll all have to deal with in the near future one way or another. We are seeing an increasing number of AI/Machine Learning applications for project scheduling, I'm keen to hear how we all feel about this?

- Is it going to help our roles and the organisations and industries we work in?

- What are some of the issues likely to be faced in implementing these solutions?

- How may it change the role of planners/schedulers ?

Easy CPM launched

Easy CPMis a self-paced course-in-a-book, supported by Mosaic Project Services Pty Ltd, focused on developing and using an effective schedule in almost any software tool. For projects using EVM, Easy CPM acts as a companion to our Easy EVM focusing on developing the realistic and achievable schedule that underpins EVM and is needed for the successful delivery of all projects.

What does this mean? "explain the exposed and hidden (patent and latent) contingency in the schedule.

What does this mean? "explain the exposed and hidden (patent and latent) contingency in the schedule.

A related odd question is "Does the Basis of Schedule indicate what percent of each activity's duration contains build-in "patent contingency?"  - I googled it - nothing comes up.

Opinion of 2 to 3 planners in a project

Hi all,

I have been in planning for about 15 years.

I had bad experience in my previous company where the project had 2 to 3 planners all reporting to the project director.

my current company, my new project also in a situation we have 2 planners. me and the other senior planner. there is no lead and both of us reporting to the project director.

I find it very confusing and very hard to work.

Industry norm? if progress is through December you call the your Dec. Update, not Jan correct?

Industry norm? if progress is through December you call the your Dec. Update, not Jan correct?  That is the way I have always seen it, and it is best to use Jan 01 as the data date correct? - that way you get all of Dec. - that is better than messing with time - P6 naturally defaults to the AM for the data date correct, why mess with it just use Jan 01 right?

Nebulous Specification interpretation arguments

"The Contractor mus provide a preliminary schedule reflecting the Contractor's planned activities during the first 45 calendar days after NTP0.  This preliminary schedule must be submitted within five (5) calendar days after NTP0."  - this is broad, the contractor turned in a copy and paste of just the dates, no float.  They said it is "a schedule", which it is but that does not mean that it is good.  What are some arguements to make with a vague, nebulous spec?  The float issue can be complicated, but also delays commonly occur early - part of the intent of the spe

How to have comprehensive knowledge of other disciplines?

B
boran ucar 👤 Member for 6 years 6 months

Hi everyone. As a civil engineer I'm currently working in a industrial project as a site rough works engineer. I want to pursue my career as a planning or cost control engineer. How can I have comprehensive knowledge of other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, piping etc) for planning, quantity surveying, progress payments etc? Should I read specifications, method statements or what else do you recommend?
