has anyone ever seen a timeline for a business plan in scheduling software? it would make sense...I am looking for a template.  Has logic, cash flow etc - would be a good idea.  Or even one in excel?

Planned values of Early & Late curves Vs Actual value

K

Interpretation of Progress S-Curve without Schedule

Case-1  the actual overall actual progress value of reporting period is less than the overall early planned value but above the overall late planned  value:  the agreed baseline completion of Project may or may not get extended, all depends on the progress achieved on the planned critical path.

Do template Project folder and sub-folder systems exist? or Any software that places attachments in folders automatically?

Do template Project folder and sub-folder systems exist?  or Any software that places attachments in folders automatically?  I have used e-builder and procore, but I do not think they put docs in folders automatically - they provide the folders - but you have to put them in - as far as I know...perhaps auto placement is a feature you have to pay more for?

Contractor claims baseline was never approved? wouldn't it be the defacto BL either way?

Contractor claims baseline was never approved?  wouldn't it be the defacto BL either way?  Or would the first update?  If this claim were true would it get them anything?

Critical Path vs Longest Path

Consultant said the longest path was the Critical Path "The attached longest path goes through the Package 2 permit, followed by the Caisson work for D, then E with the remainder of the building work for Area E through March 28th into Punchlist and Turnover." I ran the Float Path listing -  The critical path goes through package 2, then through Area C is shown completing on May 1, 2023 which is the Substantial Completion".  I think the path that goes to Substantial Completion is the crit path not to the last item on the schedule  Chances are they need to change the

Average schedule summary times for Design, Procurement, Construction for average buildings - like a school or school add-on

Average schedule summary times for Design, Procurement, Construction for average buildings - like a school or school add-ons.  Should this information be somewhere, such as in Gordian or something...crew counts would be good, but that might be asking for too much...

Improving EVM Indices

To all my EVM friends,

we produce all those EVM metrics and indices each month / period and they get passed on from the Planning Report to the Project Report & Board Report and are endlessly discussed in isolation. What does CPI=0.7 or SPI=0.5 really mean?

A suggestion -

We should add a superscript to say WHEN the indices was produced say (period) P3 of !7 or (month) M9 of 23

and add a subscript to say which PLANNED CURVE was used say ES=0%, LS=100% or CPN=50%

this at least would inform the discussion.

Recovery Program with additional manhours

K
Kannan CP 👤 Member for 17 years 11 months

Hi,

Contractor's schedule is loaded with manhours for the progress measurement. Due to significant delays, recovery program is being developed with additional resources, means additional manhours to meet the agreed target date.

Is it ok to add additional manhours to activities to show the recovery action, but this will affect the total manhours and accordingly the progress values already reported. or is it enough to explain the recovery actions in the narrative and keeping the original manhours as it is, without affecting the progress measurement.

MPX File Import to P6 v17.12 Issue

J
J OBrien 👤 Member for 8 years

Hi All,

I'm having an issue importing mpx files from MS Project into Primavera P6 v 17.12.

In terms of the msp file, I've ensured there are no blank rows and that there is no logic or resources loaded against summary tasks. The calendar assinged to the project is standard. I then use the MPPToMPX file convertor to convert the file from .mpp format to .mpx format, ensuring the 'process resource calendar exceptions' check box is selected. No issues so far.

I then go through the standard import process:
