Coloring and grouping a WBS in excel from P6 copy and paste

Sometimes it is useful to copy and paste schedule information from Primavera P6 to excel in wbs format.

Howerver, whenever you paste information from P6 into excel the color fomatting and the ability to group by wbs doe snot carry over.

There is an excel wbs add in utility that can color your wbs and add the ability to exapnd and or collapse the wbs and inforamtion.

This is a handy utility so that other people who do not have Primavera P6 or who do not know how to use P6 can use excel to view schedule information in a wbs format coloring and grouping similiar to P6.

Primavera Critical import issue

During Import of XER file the appication is intercepted. Then it is not possible to start P6 at all.

P6 Duration types and " Project Planned Start"

Hi all, i have a couple of quesions. I would appreciate every one's input on this :

 

1- under primavera project detals tab and under dates, what is " project planned start" where it is reading from?

2- I have searched a lot, but what are the different scenarios that you may use each duration type in primavera( real life examples!)

Leveling issues, "pinning activities in place"

For a while, I have been facing some issues with leveling resources on P6. I understand the principle upon which it calculates start dates, but I'm facing issues "pinning" some activities down and forcing start and finish dates.



For example I know that an activity will start on day S1 and finish on day F1, I add the necessary start on constraints to try and pin it in that place, yet it changes dates.

Can you use Primavera as a Resource Planner? For people on various sites - Alternative to Excel

Regarding the image attached - Excel can be used to display people, which site they are on at different points in the year.

The second table shows how MS project / primavera defaults to. Each site would have to be done as a seperate row/line item

Is there a way of making activities in primavera span across one line but on multiple dates? So i could have person A, B and C as a line each and then to the right see what site they are on like the top table i made in excel?

Database Cleanse - Is it possible to change Baseline Global Calendars to Project Calendars

Hi All,

I'm the P6 administrator for a large portfolio of projects that I've inherited and am in the process of cleansing the database, starting with global calendars. I have numerous calendars assigned to historical and current projects (both of which can't be deleted) that all have multiple baselines assigned i.e. post weekly status updates.
