Seeking advise - Should I focus on learning about services distribution?

Hi,

I am fairly new to planning, and our site has just got a site manager to look after the ground floor services distribution on a large residential project (900 flats). With my limited time, I am wondering if this is what I should be focusing on learning, and how this work impacts programme and the rest of the work in the project.

Appreciate any advise.

The skill of a planner is not based around knowing how any particular part of a project is built, it is focused on obtaining that infomration from the knowlegable experts for including in the schedule.  What you think is largely irellevant, the managers will do what they know.

The core skills of a panner and scheduler are highly transferable, for more on this see: https://mosaicprojects.com.au/PMKI-SCH-010.php#Overview

It depends on what do you want to attain or where do you want to start with your career. Regarding planning, the process will be the same. Developing of WBS, task, code, logic, resourcing will be the same. The scope might be different but it’s a good start. You will also have different discipline such as Civil, Structural, Piping, Mechanical, Sanitary, Electrical, Communication etc…
