Importing a Microsoft Projects with Project Actuals Into P6 to compile a baseline

I have been given a project that has actuals in Microsoft Project. I need to pull out the baseline from this into p6. What would be the best solution once inported into p6? Would I need to uncheck the finish and start section on the actuals? There are about 1200 activies and another alternaitve would be helpful.

Thank you all for the useful information. I have found how to uncheck start and finish statuses. I initially did a globacl change to correct this.

Please be reminded that - "... there exists a common trend with Microsoft Project users which is quite common across the world. These schedulers simply ignore the requirement for proper planning logic and insert negative lags to achieve a quick programme with minimal activities".

You might need to adjust the logic of MSP schedules.
