Longest Path

Hi,

I have a detailed schedule which represents the works of 4 packages. Each package WBS has it own work packages and activities.

I was trying to take the longest path of each package, by filtering each package and selecting also the longest path filter. But its not working. I dont want to select the critical path filter as it includes all the activities as per the settings of the critical path.

Is there any solution.

Best Regards

these activities that you suggest to add a constraint on them still need to be linked to the final milestone.

Hi Kannan,

You could put a constraint on the last activity of each package solely for the sake of seeing these pathways and/or producing any outputs you need and then simply taking them back off so that they don't have a permanent impact on your schedule.

Go to Enterprise then Activity Codes then select Modify then Add. Then type the new activity code called CP then click close. next click Add make code values CP and the description my critical path then close. Now add this new column to the schedule. Look at the predecessor window right click on it and select Customize Predecessor Columns. Expand the General category on the left and bring the driving and critical columns over to the right. Now filter for the last activity in the schedule.  Look at the predecessor window and look for the processor that has BOTH the driving AND critical boxes checked. Highlight that activity and in the lower right click on GOTO. Keep doing this tracing back the driving AND critical path until you get to the activity at the data date or the start of the schedule. Now click on the activity at the top and click in the NEW activity code that you made called CP and select the upside down triangle in the upper left where it says Display and select filter by All Values. Do the first activity then do a fill down for the rest of the activities. Now you can filter for the activity code called CP.

Hi Johannes,

Sort it from the combinaton of float path and certain filter.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Johannes,

Thanks for the reply.

I am aware of this multiple path option. But this may show all the packages as per the float path ranking. I need to show only one package at a time and the longest path in it.

Hi Kennan

You could use the multiple float path option.

Hit F9 schedule options. select advanced options and create the float path as desired.
