I am Planning Engineer, I am thinking of learning BIM but I am confused should I do it or not.
Many People tell me it is of use for a draughtsman job who wants to move up in his career. I have read on internet that it helps in finding contruction difficulties and good for project management and it can use used to make reports these things are obvious.
But I want to know how much is it of EXACT use of BIM ? and how Will it be of advantage to me as planning engineer ?
Thanks for the Information
BIM stands for Building Information Modeling this is getting larger and larger and a more widely used tool and in some cases being specified as a requirement on projects. This is where 3 dimensional and 4 dimensional modeling and software is used.
There are different uses for BIM. Primarily in the construction industry Building Information Modeling aids in collision detection at the initial stage, identifying the exact location of discrepancies.
So this will make sure that the pipe work is not running into and clashing with some ductwork.
You have to decide if this is the road for you. The advantage that you would have as a planner is that you can integrate the BIM software and P6 and virtually build your project right in from of your eyes as it relates to time. So you can look at the BIM model 6 months Pinot your project and the mode will show you where your project should be. for example maybe it shows the steel going up for the 2nd floor yet the actual field conditions only the foundations are in.
You are time lining the BIM mode with your project schedule.
It could not hurt to know BIM
