Hi,
Good day to all.
In scheduling, when I have a scenario whereby I purchase an equipment from vendor, and need to wait for vendor to deliver it, should this wait time be set as a task with the duration being the same as the delivery time, or should I use a milestone with a lead time dependency?
cheers
Hi Raymund,
No issues. Your Sujjestion is takne into account but I would prefer a schedule to be a little detailed so as to know whose fault it is Vendor, Contractor or Client which you cannot know by putting just a Milestone (Who is responsible for the Milestone).

Jithin
Jithin,
My concern is in updating the Manufacturing progress. During those period of Manufacturing when there is need to update the Schedule then the Progress will just be computed as number of days passed vs remaining days.
My Suggestion as Milestone is that the Contractor just wait for the delivery Date and if arrived then update the schedule accordingly.
Just a suggestion.
Hi Eugene,
I (Contractor) work on EPC projects and I split the Procurement Task according to the Material as its all by different vendors example,
Pump
Tanks
Generator
Pipes and Fittings
Cables
Instruments
etc.
We split it according to Material (Vendors) so as to monitor which item is delayed and what will affect the Project completion. Whom to Push like usually Bid Evaluation Award (Contractor), Manufacturing (Vendor) and Delivery (Contractor).
So by spliting it up we can Alert as to whose part is the delay is The Vendor , Client or Contractor.
Hi Raymund,
Usually Manufacturing and Delivery Period can be monitored as the Vendor would say that example They need 22 Weeks for Manufacturing and Delivery (Usually by the one who places Purchase Order - Contractor) can be monitored like we (Contractor) on gerneral note know that it would take a minimum of 6 Weeks of delivery from USA or EUROPE to Middle East.
So we would know when the Manufacturing and delivery would be finished. We can Alert our team (Procurement) to look at if its finished and is it shipped. All this points would defenitly help you out.

Jithin
I suggest to use a milestone for the Delivery date needed prior to Installation/Execution. Then use ALAP constraint.
Manufacturing and Delivery Time Period can not be Monitored.
Hi Jithin,
Thanks a lot! Sounds advice that goes beyond what I have expected to get.
So, I should make task by vendor a task.
To think further on it, is there any disadvantage to use set lead time on milestone for delivery date?
Thanks.
Hi Eugene,
Its better to put 3 task for a procurement item as minimum.
1) Bid, Evaluation and Award 2) Complete Manufacturing and Final Inspection 3) Delivery - Delivery duration is the time to ship / airlift or any means of transportation of material from the manufacturing location.
One more option is which is little bit more detailed,
1) Prepare / Issue MR 2) Recieve Bid 3) Complete Technical Evaluation and Submit TBE for Company Approval 4) Receive Company Approval 5) Issue FOA / FOA/Letter of Award 6) Manufacturing 7) Delivery
