Out of System Memory / Virtual Memory

Hi,

We have created a fairly basic MS Project (2007) design schedule with around 600 activities which are fully logically linked.  We are having difficulty in printing oversize to PDF with the error message 'Out of Virtual Memory' / 'Out of System Memory'.  The error message suggests closing down other applications to free up system memory but this does not help.  Is there a quick fix out there or, should we consider re-writing the schedule?

Thanks

Simon

For those hooked on MSP I suggest trying the xertoolkit.  I use different software so I do not have issues generatin PDFs but maybe this tool can also be of help to overcome the printing issue. 600 activities is quite a limitation.

Hello

We have been made aware of this additional solution for converting PDF's to MS Word.  We hope it adds value and helps someone... http://formswift.com/convert-pdf-to-word

Jamie Smith, from Formswift says "In my opinion, our PDF-to-Word Converter is more thorough, up to date, and user friendly than any other existing PDF-to-Word Converter, not to mention it is completely free for anyone to use. "

Hope this helps... PP Team

Simon,

All software are different, therefore the fix for one might not be the fix for another, perhaps even operating systems also plays a role.

At times by trial and error you might find a workaround.

Try setting your PDF printer as the default printer (try it with Acrobat then with Free PrimoPDF) , change the default settings to large size page for this printer and when printing do not use the Add-on Menu at the Ribbon but the print command from your software menu bar, then try with the icons and finally with the Ribbon.

Let us know and good luck.

Best regards,

Rafael

Before you spend our hard-earned PPS on Adobe Pro (though it is good...), it might be worth having a look at other freeware out there. -I'm not sure what you're using, but there is quite a lot of difference between the size in MB of the files created by different pdf "printers", so it might also have a similar effect on virtual memory.

Also if it's just the odd occaison when you experience these problems, there are sites like http://online.primopdf.com/ that allows you to upload a file and receive it back as a PDF via email.

Hi Garry,

I should have stuck this on MiMi!

I have been onto MM IT who diagnose the same fault as you do.  It would appear that we are using Ghost Script to generate PDF's which is ok for small batch jobs but oversize prints is not man enough to keep up.  I have been advised to procure Adobe Professional which should be ok to run the print jobs.

Hi Simon,

This is ringing bells from my dim and distant past. I think I had a similar problem and resolved it by using different software to create the pdf.

No guarantees, but it's probably worth a try.

Cheers,

G
