I am new to P6 and I'm new to Planning Planet.
So far I have;
- I am trying to compare 2 schedules; 'Pre-Impact' and 'Post-Impact'. I have progressed the two schedules to different dates (including actual dates and any re-sequencing).
- Both of the above schedules were created by copying an earlier schedule.
- I've assigned the 'Pre-Impact' schedule as the Baseline (Project Baseline AND Primay Baseline) in the 'Post-Impact' Schedule.
Issue: The Baseline schedule in 'Post-Impact' does not match the dates in the 'Pre-Impact' schedule.
I've tried;
- Removing the 'Pre-Impact' as the Baseline then re-assigning it.
- Closing Primavera and restarting
- Refreshing the page
- Double checking the dates in 'Pre-Impact'
Question: Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get my Baseline to reflect the 'Pre-Impact' schedule?
Thanks in advance,
- Jeff
There are a number of issues with P6 Dates and Baselines and there are several options to resolve these issues. Unfortunately P6 has a lagre number date fields which you need to understand and avoid including the Early Dates and Planned Dates. All my books cover these issues but for people who do not want to buy a book I have published a paper on my websites under technical papers and the one titled What Primavera P6 Baseline Bars am I Displaying? covers the Baseline Dates issues.
The issue with Actual dates is the issue of displaying Early dates and you should display Start and Finish.
The issue of not seeing the correct Baseline Dates is due toe the incorrect Admin EV Setting.

Jeff,
Planned Dates is different from Baseline Dates. Baseline Data will never change when assigned.
To make sure you display the the same Data as your Basline Data in the Current Schedule, Create a UDF in the Baseline Schedule as "Initial Start and Initial Finish" then Copy the Start and Finish into the UDF accordingly.
Transfer this UDF into the current Schedule, Compare the UDF columns with Baseline Dates Columns.
Regards,
To ensure you have the Start and Finish Dates from a Baseline displayed as Baseline Bars, and not the Planned Dates, make sure:
The Admin, Admin Preferences, Earned Value tab is set to either At Completion values with current dates, or Budget Values with current dates (some versions use (Planned Values with current dates)
A Baseline is set in the Project, Assign Baseline form and your are not displaying a <Current Project>,
Each User will must set their own Primary User Baseline when using a Layout created by another person,
The Projectwindow, Calculationstab Link Budget and At Completion for not started activities option is checked.
Thanks for the reply.
For completed activities, the baseline bar seems to represent the 'Original Duration' without any progress/actual dates (from the Baseline schedule).
Under the 'Bars ...' menu, I can only choose 'Primary Baseline' or 'Project Baseline' to represent the Baseline schedule. Neither of these are giving me the Actual Baseline dates.
How can I resolve this and show the Baseline Actual dates / At completion duration?

Hi Jeff
I have a feeling you are using Early Start & Early Finish Dates.
In P6 there is a date field named Start & Finish.
Since you said the problem is only for completed activities, I feel this might be the solution.
Do read more on the various date fields in P6 to better understand the calculations of ES & EF

... Upon further review, I seem to ONLY be having this issue with completed activities.
Thoughts? Insigts? Solutions?
Thanks again,
- Jeff
