Links Between Projects

Hello,

My programme has some activities that are linked to activities in the Client's programme (local copy on my dbase). i.e. Completion of certain activities in my Client's programme defines an 'access' milestone in my programme.

What does P6 do with these links if I export my project only, and send it to someone?

If someone else imports my XER file, will all my 'access' milestones revert to the data date? or will they be constrained in time?

If the person I'm sending the XER file to also has a copy of my Client's programme, will P6 re-establish the links to their version of the Client's programme?

Thanks,

Hugh.

Hugh,

When you create an XER export file of a single schedule with external relationship links, P6 automatically inserts an External Early Start or an External Early Finish date constraint to match the forward-pass effect of the missing relationship.  This will prevent the activity from occurring earlier than it did when the relationship existed, even if later modifications to the schedule would allow for this.

This is not a perfect solution as it still will not properly reflect the backward-pass characteristics (and Total Float calculation) of the missing relationship.  P6 will not automatically reverse the process if a copy of the missing linked schedule is later introduced.  I hope that this helps!
