Actually i want to know 2 things:
Suppose an activity is delayed due to some other network in the schedule then is it possible to know the root cause of the delay by inserting any column in the layout or by using any report.
Ths is because the method of using "GOTO" command is very tedious as the number activities runs into thousands.

Yes, there are some alternatives,
So if you have done this, then, the activities with the longest pad shall be colored red. Then start from the bottom of the schedule and work your way op using the "goto" facility on the predecessor tab. If you have more then one predecessor use the activity predecessor where the "driving" is chequed.
Do not forget the other suggestions as "schedule variance" and performance % and schedule %.

What i meant to ask was:
suppose any activity is delayed due to its predecessor so Can we get the root cause actiivity (predecessor)of the backlog in a column or do we have to use the "GOTO" tab in the relationships window at the bottom.
Using the "GOTO" tab is a tedious & time consuming process so i want to know another alternative

Yes. for item 1. If your network is created with sound logic you can trace in back to the root.
For you next item, note that these are different types of software so comparing is difficult.

1.suppose an activity is is behind schedule because of delay in any of its predecessor so can we trace the root cause of the delay of any activity.
2.Can we perform any calculation in Primavera like we do in excel?

Yes Primavera can calculate the back-log, i assume that you mean "schedule variance". Make sure you have assigned a baseline and then include the column"Schedule Variance". This gives you the back-log in duration for each activity in relation to the baseline dates.
You can also do this for % complete.
Again, assign a baseline, include the column"scheduled % complete" and the Performance % complete. The difference between the two is the back- in % percentage. Scheduled is planned and Performance is actual.
Click on the top of the column and this sorts the variance in ascending or descending order.
