WBS Summary Question

I was wondering if it is possible to do the following.  I have an activity that I would like to breakdown into three seperate sub  activities.  I have the estimated hours lets say 1500 hours for a total duration of 15 days.  I would then breakdown the hours into each sub activity.   I would then progress each Sub activity 500-500-500.  I would then progress each sub activity.  See below

Activity A1850  Summary 1500hr  15 days 65%

Activity A1850.1 First Activity  500 hrs 5 days   20%

Activity A1850.2 Second Activity 500 hrs  5 days 25%

Activity A1850.3 Third Activity 500 hrs   5 days 20%

From our accounting software I get the actual hours and dollars.  I would like to be able to add these actuals into the summary as these hours are not broken down by sub activity.  Also is there a way to add the budgets hours and duration in the summary and have them automatically calculate down into each sub activity.  Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kannan,

If you provide and update (tick as finished) a percentage step weightage against each step, the activity percentage complete will be automatically updated if:

1. the activity % complete type (General tab of the activity) is Physical.

2. the 'Activity percent complete based on activity steps' condition (Calculations tab in the project window) is ticked.

Regards.

Hi Sr,

By providing % complete against each step- will the ovell percentage value  be automatically assigned to the activity while updating?

Hi,

Instead of calling it a sub-activity, you can add steps to your activity (one of the tabs in the Activity Details).

You can assign step weight to each of these steps to track the progress of the activity in terms of percentages or units - 65%, 20%, 25% and 20% for each step in your case.

Your activity can hold all the cost-related values - hours and dollars and you still have your activity split and tracked in terms of steps. To do this, remember to assign the Percentage Complete Type of your activity as "Physical".

Hope this helps.
