Help w/ resources

Once I have my resources set up. How do I track them between projects. If I have so many units budgeted for each project how can I tell if I have to many guys on one project (overallocated?) and move to another project that needs help. Also how do I link projects together so for instance I can't have 1 laborer (JOHN SMITH) at 2 jobsites at the same time.

In summary, I have a "pool" of people set up as resoureces, I want the job to be as efficient as possible and I would like primavera to tell me what jobs  laborers need to be moved to.

I bought the book by Paul.E Harris so if you could direct me to what chapter this is in that would be great.

Thanks everyone!

Tim,

I have the same requirement as mentioned above and the only way I can do that will yield result is through the resource & activity usage profile and spreadsheet.

All ongoing projects shall be open at the same time so that you can view which resources are overallocated. You can trace whhich activities and as well as which projects it is assigned to.

From Resource usage Spreadsheet, Organized and Group by Resources and Collapsed to Resource Level. You will get a data per time on the right pane.

Export this data to excel, input the max units/time to corresponding rows and perform conditional formatting as well as filtering.
