Sometimes we have a milestone wich come at the end of one activity/ies and its the start of other activity/ies (like handover milestones).
So how we should conider this kind of milestones, start or finish milestone?

This have nothing to do with leads or lags, but with the very basic time computations of CPM. The default as soon as possible you use same as everyone else gives you the finish milestone while the as late as possible gives you the start milestone.
If the finish or start occur in the middle of a day you wont see any difference only if it occurs at the start or end of the day.
Even Asta shall be able to model these start and finish milestones.

Use the appropriate.... if it represents the end date then use Finish and if it represents the commencement date then use Start.
For a chain of linked activities, succeeding activities need not to be linked to a finish milestone that represent the end of its predecessor activity.

I agree with Mike, from what I recall of P6, memories that are fading away.
When you have an activity that finishes by the end of a day and another starts early next day, if you place a milestone in between it can happens either at end of a day or at beginning of next day if there are work time in between. With the finish/start milestones you decide what date will be displayed even though for scheduling calendars it makes no difference.
If you want to use the milestone to mark the end of the day you shall use a finish milestone, if you want to mark the day of start of the following activity you use the start milestone. If you want to mark both use two milestones in between the two activities, one a finish milestone and another a start milestone.
Suggest you do the exercise so you can verify and compare the results yourself.
With the use of ASAP/ALAP functionality we can easily control if finish or start milestone.

Since milestones have zero duration they can be considered as either start / finish or both.
In any case it is bad planning practice to put any constraints on such a milestone unles it is the very first milestone in the project.
