Problem with scheduling and durations

Hi all,

I have inherited a program from a colleague which is based on 7day x 12hrs calendar.

When i am adding durations and relationships into the program, they seem to be extending past the dates required.

For example;

Activity 1 = 2 days

Activity 2 = 1 day (FS with ACT1) So total is 3 days.

However, what actually happens is Activity 1 takes 3 days and Activity 2 takes 2 days but the middle days overlap so i dont get a true picture.

Any help would be appreciated!

Kind Regards

Mike

Because you haven't maked them as actually complete, and they don't have any predecesor relationships driving a later date?

Hi Mr Lyons,

Just been looking through PP, and noticed a problem that a colleague of mine asked me the other day :P

Is the problem along the lines of:

You have a 2 day activity that starts on Monday 02/04/2012 but seems to end on  something like Wednesday 04/04/2012

And a 1 day activity on a FS with the 2 day activity that starts on the Wednesday 04/04/2012 but finishes on Thursday 05/04/2012 ?

I think the problem has something to do with the Activity/Project/Resource Calendars somehow. I was having problems with this. I changed all calendars, made new resources but it didnt seem to suit.

Would monitoring the programme in hours change this if you can override the activity stretching over to the next day?

When you find the answer will you give me a shout?

Regards,

Dave

Mike,

Are you sure there is an overlap?

If an activity satarts at mid of work day and takes one day it will finish at mid next day but the duration is a single day, half + half. Look at Activity 2, it takes 2 half days, but total duration is a day or 12 hours.

If this is the case this is not a BUG but how the software should work. On the other hand if there is an overlap then it is an interesting issue.

Best regards,

Rafael

Maybe it is a BUG, some software are notorious for issues with multiple calendars. Suggest trying inserting a milestone between the activities with a 24hours/day-7days/week calendar and delete the original links between the two activities and see what happens.
