Hi, I am on a steep upward learning curve with P6 and need some help.
My client wants all activities resourced, which I have done. He also wants a spend profile for the scheme.
We are not generating our cost information at activity level, but have set up our pricing package to generate our cost figures at WBS or sub-WBS level, so I am not able to cost each activity on the programme.
What I want (or need) to do is assign a resource called "cost" at WBS level, so, for instance, all the costs for the activities associated with "bridge pier 1" are spread over the overall duration of the bridge pier 1 activities. I can then do the same for each of the piers, the abutments and the decks of the various bridges. This will then let me create a budget monthly expenditure profile. (It's not precise, but then at this stage we do not need to be)
I would also like to assign a heavy lifting plant resource to the summary bar, to ensure that despite the number of concurrent actiovities within a heading we only show that we have one piece of kit on site
When I go into my project I am unable to assign resources at WBS/heading level. Is there a way to do this and if so what is the best way to achieve what I want.
Hope I've made this query clear enough
Thanks
Mike
Thanks.
The Activity set as a WBS Summary in the "activity type" is just what I needed.
Problem solved... just need to get the cost figures out of the estimators now !
Thanks again for the assistance
Mike
Mike,
In the Activity Window, Insert an Activity under that WBS and change the Activity Type as WBS Summary. This will summarized all the duration of the activities within the WBS.
This is where you will load all the resources you need.
This is absolutely what you require.
Hope this will help.
Mike . You can not assign resource at WBS level but You can give a weightage at WBS Level ...if you have Manhours at activity level & weightage also you have then Top down budgeting , i hope this work.
