Float calculation

Hi.

There are 4 milestones in a project(P6 R8). One finishes after the other but are not linked to each other. How do you calculate the float for each milestones. Usually the float is being calculated from the last milestone of the project.

You can customize the coulmns in Relationships tab to show 'Driving'. If Driving column is checked it shows the relationship is driving. SImilar to the  *  in P3

Thanks Ronald.

Yes,it's the constraints that are creating the problems.

Usually when the automated system doesn't work, i start from the milestone and go backwards tracing the driving predecessors. This was easy with P3.

But in P6 i couldn't identify the driving predecessors, so need to check all the links.

Is there any solution?

San,

P6’s longest path can be a little ‘squirrely’ but it usually yields better results than using total float when multiple calendars are being used.  Look for constraints overriding the longest path.  Good luck!

Thanks Ronald,

I do not know for some reasons the longest path method on P6 doesnt give me the right activities. I did select the first milestone as the end point. But when i run the longest path,it shows some activities which are not linked to this milestone.

Is the driving predecessor asterisk (“*”) available in P6. I have used this effectively in P3.But could not find that in P6.

I have used the advanced tab option (Schedule)and selected the first milestone to determine the float path. But the report shown doesn't seem to be correct. What could be the reason?
