Hello All,
If we have a group of activities that are not shown in critical path,is there a technique to bring them in the Critical path.
What My Experience so far is that primavera chooses the critical path itself when you schedule your plan. But if after schedulling you find that the critical path shown is not what you wanted and some activities are not highlighted as critical then what to do.
Please keep in mind both options i.e,
1.Critical Path When Total Float is=0
2.Select longest path as critical path.
I am Using Primaver p6.

As mike said it is not good practise to cheat the software.:: Dont make non critical activity to the crivitical activity by applying constraints,
Software do as we say,. it gives critical as per the instruction gives by us, so our instructions to the software should be clear,...Proper links, relationships, resource flow, resource links, understanding critical path concept required,,,,,
If you dont do your resource critical Path your scheduling would be fail,,, please be aware of this,
Faiz,
Why you want non-critical activities in the critical path. I think no benefit from it. If your Programme reflects the real situation of the site activities, then the Software Critical Path will match to your requirements.
Hi Geoff
Using constraints to force a critical path is bad planning practice.
As Gary says - don't try to cheat the software.

what you need to do if you don't want to see float is to create them by placing finish on or before constraint. that shoul generate some float....... or check to find errors....
the only legitimate technique is to review the schedule and correct any mistakes.
Forcing an activity to be critical when it isn't is pure deception, and not something I would condone.
