I have imported a Bill of Material into my projectplan under WBS section purchasing. I want to allocate planned material costs to each item as they are procured and track the delivery to site.
It seems I cannot input planned material cost directly into P6 per item as I would like. The only option it seems is to create the BOM in my resources and assign these to each activity and only then will I get planned material cost, or alternatively assign the cost as an expense.
I understand this logic where raw material is used i.e. bricks, cubes of sand, sement even piping but this logic does not make sense to me in terms of a single item.
Is there something I am missing regarding P6 or am I on the wrong track.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Since you want to find out the material cost for each item under the WBS as per your BOQ, you need to assign the materil as resource in each item by difing this in Resource area. For that you need to havewhat are the raw materials coming under each item and the unit cost the same.
