Prateek,

Please don't reply to a 3 year old topic with a question that has nothing to do with that topic.

Please start a new topic with your query. It is also worth checking the "rates" section to see if the productivity rates you are looking for are there.

mukunda,

Spider Project recognizes the relationship between production rates, crew size and activity duration. It implements ii in the correct way as production rate of a crew is not always a linear function of its size.

Other software try to mimic productivity without the use of volumes of work. Same as you I do not understand why. If work is measured in hours, how you measure productivity, in hours per hours? Scheduling is about production not about accounting for payroll where work is defined per hour no matter if productive or not.

Maybe because many of the software were initially developed by IT people interested on their needs, that forgot about volume of work and production rates, they defined work as hours and not as a physical quantity. Now they are stuck with a programming whose structure does not allow to make up this omission.

Best regards,

Rafael

Mike Excel is good enough for everything,... what i dont understand is why they are not considering the relationship of duration, Quantity, productivity,  it is the priniciple of planning,,, how the software developers forgot to include this,,,,,Crazy planning softwares....

Same as an Abacus.

But every time you need to calculate remaining duration you would need to compute it from remaining volume of work, a hidden calculation some people, like the Owners' rep. want to know if remaining duration was faked or not as an artificial reduction of float. You still need the relationship between resources and their productivity, cheap software do not realize this relationship.

Beware that productivity or production rates cannot be applied blindly, you can determine duration of an activity for a given crew but by increasing the crew size you do not necessarily increase production in linear proportion. With Spider Project the use of multi-resources with various composition and production rates will allow you to model different possible crews with true productivity of their own, if using skills the software will allocate the best possible crew deppending on the avilability of the individual resources that makes up the milti-resource.

Also when modeling the effect of seasons on productivity the software must know how climate reduced or increased productivity and make the adequate adjustments in activity duration or even crew composition as an activity that is delayed from summer to winter might be required to use some additional equipment and work a reduced shift.

Believe me there are many other reasons why you need the software to be able to make the computations by itself.

Best regards,

Rafael
