Hello
I have trouble importing data from excel to P6. I do an export to excel with the fields that interest me to generate a template, I don't do any change in the column headers and I only change the exported data with new data to import, but P6 does not recognize data entered into the % fields or Earned Values fields; (Actual Labor Unit i.e.). I only can to do the import user-defined fields. I think it's a problem of text formats but not sure. I need to import the field Actual Labor Unit, because I use this field for update the progress.
Someone can help me?
Thank You and sorry for my English.
The Database is composed of many tables related to one another, it is not a single flat database. Each individual table is a table with some values related to other tables. In order to properly transfer all data you must do it in a sequential order similar to how you enter data directly within the software interface.
In the very same way in order to assign resources to an Activity (to the Activity Table) these must be already defined as a resource (on the resource Table) ; in order to enter resource assignment data to an Activity Table these must be already defined on the Resource Table.
Just imagine the chaos if you could assign resources not defined yet via Excel. How the software will know the missing attributes of this new resource?
If you are having problems with resource units import/export it most probably is that they must first be defined in some table otherwise the values will not be imported.
I do not use P6 but I believe the issue is not within the software.
Hi all,
I already solved the problem. For Importing the Actual % field must be from a resource template. When you export from P6, in the "Export Type" step, you have to tick the "Resource Assignements" In the tab for resources is where you must include the Actual Units field. This field is required to update progress.
I think that all field related with Labor, must import from a tab of resouces.
Greetings
Hi all,
We are facing the same issue too. At times, the import/export of data (budgeted labor unit/budgeted nonlabor unit/duration) between MS Excel and P6 v7 just doesn't work. Normally, we would create a working resource-loaded schedule and export to MS Excel - then we would populate the budgeted labor/nonlabor before importing it back into P6. The numbers are just not tally on certain WBS. Any ideas on why this is happening? Your expertise is much sought here. Thanks.
Rashidi.
