HI Gentlemen,

I have been updating the progress in primavers version 6, by using Duration as % complete type. But i have also heard that one should use Physical as % complete type...I then used physical but the results were the same. Can someone tell me that what is the difference in using these two?????

Duration % Complete
Theoritically said u hv activity A1000 which is scheduled for 4days, then u update the schedule in 2nd days, the % should be 50%.

Physical % Complete
You have to enter the value in status tab manually, either based on your personal judgement or activity weights/steps.

halu everyone,

could anyone help me finding my solution in my P6 stand alone problem. when updating my schedule, with the following facts: percent complete type: duration percent complete, cost loaded, base line project.. problem, when updating, activities with 100% completed will give a 100% earned value, but for activities with below 100% completed or not finished activity will not give any earned value at all. thanks and god bless..

Let's say you have a 10-day activity and you are using Duration %.

At the 5th day, your Physical % is 40%.

Dur % = 50 and Phy % = 40%

No work is done on the activity for the next 5 days (ie no progress.  Physical % is still 40%.)

Time lapsed is 10 days now.  Remaining Dur is still 5 days. At this point...

Dur % = Actual Duration/At Completion Dur =10/15 days = 67%!

Without doing anything, your Dur % increased from 50% to 67%!!!

In this picture, it shows that Physical % more acurately reflects reality.

Hi Henry

Welcome to Planning Planet

You will get a better response if you start a new thread for your query in either P6 or P3.

Also you only need to click the Save button once.

Best regards

Hi Everyone,

I am a new member to this planning site. I have a query about updating the baseline in p6. how can keep the backup. Normally in P3 you will save as another file. How about P6. Please advise.

Rob Llewellyn,

Thanks for your reply. Now I have doubt in my upating process :(..

I perform Following Steps,

1.General tab--Percent type--Physical

2.Status tab--activity Start Date entry---Percent Complete till Date (say 20%)

3.Schedule at data date.

is it correct Sir ?????

Hi Faiz

Updating the progress as a % of duration will only produce an automatic calculation of how long you have left to go, not the actual quantity left to achieve.  So far example if you have a 10 day activity which is worth 1000 man hours and you tell it you are 50% complete, Primavera (on those settings) will automatically presume you have 5 days of work remaining. In reality you may be 50% of the way through your original duration, achieved 60% of the workscope but there may be external factors which mean that the remaining 40% will now take 7 days instead of 5.

On projects i have always used % complete in relation to the quantity of achieved manhours and then input the remaining duration rather than letting it calculate automatically.

I hope this makes sense!
